My thoughts on “where to next”?

I wrote my last blog post in March 2020 as I was returning home early from France. The pandemic had arrived, and the world didn’t know what hit it! COVID forced travel worldwide to come to a screeching halt for two years. I’d been travel-blogging since 2013 but for some reason I let my website lapse. I must have been in a pandemic stupor.
Fast forward to 2024 and I’m traveling again. When I started planning my two months in France 2024, I decided I needed a place to park my writing. Apparently, I now consider writing to be part of my travel.
I write this blog primarily to keep in touch with my family and friends when I’m “on the road”. I hope you enjoy my stories, perhaps they will inspire you to travel more. Or make you smile a bit? I profess to be an accomplished traveler with years of experience but in actuality, I make tons of rookie mistakes and kick myself each time.
When I was a teenager there were three countries on my “bucket list” – Russia, Egypt, and Bali. I have no idea why those places. Russia was likely from watching a movie about Czars with backdrops of snowy St Petersburg. Egypt can only be pictures of the pyramids and finding ancient tombs. I wanted to be an archeologist until I realized I’d have to be a lot better in the sciences and math. Bali is just beautiful, all that clear blue water, and white sand. I’m sure I’d seen pictures! I’ve managed to check 2 off my list. I haven’t yet made it to Bali. Over the years I’ve added many more places and checked them off. There’s an amazing world out there.
Where to next?
I’m working on a road trip to Montreal (my birthplace) next summer. My family left Quebec during the 1970s. Quebec was going through a language crisis and many English moved out. I love the city and have many fond memories, but I don’t have family or friends to bring me back regularly. It’s a beautiful city and, by the way, Quebec City is like being in France without the overseas airfare!
In December I’m booked on a river cruise on the Rhine from Basel to Amsterdam with Cheryl and two others. We stop in towns and cities in Switzerland, France and Germany. Pre-cruise we’ll be in Lucerne and Zurich for two days each.
Otherwise, I’m still dreaming. Africa, Morocco, New Zealand, Indonesia (Bali)? By the way, I’m embarrassed to say I’ve never been to California! So, so many places on that bucket list. Stay tuned.
